When Lee Goguen bought a weekend pass to attend this weekend’s Shediac Renaissance Festival, she was excited for an opportunity to hang out with friends and attend themed events.
“It was really exciting that something was going to be close that I could go and dress up and be nerdy at,” said Goguen, who is from Riverview and has been to comic and anime conventions in the past.
But Goguen’s experience wasn’t what she expected, and her experience is one of many that have been posted to social media platforms, such as Facebook and Reddit.
The Shediac Renaissance Faire was billed as a two-day festival where guests could dress up and attend medieval events. It was at the Neptune Drive-in and hosted by Shediac Wonderland.

Goguen said that ahead of the festival, the faire put out an accessibility request form for people with disabilities to fill out. Goguen has a bad ankle and frequently walks with a cane and knew she wouldn’t be able to walk from the parking lot to the grounds.
When Goguen got there, she had a spot a two-minute walk away, but what she didn’t expect was the line to get into the festival.
“When we arrived, we were at the end of the fifth zigzag. It took us two hours and about 45 minutes to reach the fence,” she said.
