New Brunswick’s education minister says she was disappointed with the 2025 results of an international assessment program that showed students in the province scored 34 to 36 points below the Canadian average in every subject tested, including science, math and reading.
But Claire Johnson said a 12-year education plan, released in June, is aimed at improving reading, writing, math and science skills.
And the check-ins that come with the new plan will let the province know if certain initiatives are working, she said.
“The last 10-year [education] plan — the one from 2016 to 2026 — didn’t have regular check-ins,” Johnson said in an interview with Information Morning Moncton.
