Moncton’s new mental health court program is underway, giving an alternative to the traditional court system for people dealing with severe mental health or addictions issues.
The court, which started April 1, is modelled after other mental health court programs but with some key differences: the Moncton version is available for those struggling with addictions and also offers participants housing throughout the process.
To participate in the program, participants must meet several qualifications and be referred by the Crown prosecutor on their case.
