Moncton’s last remaining curling club is branching more directly into pickleball as it continues a strategy of diversification to keep the rocks gliding and brooms sweeping.
Curl Moncton decided at its annual general meeting this month to not renew the lease of Pickleball Moncton and to instead launch its own pickleball club, said Shannon Tatlock, curling club president.
“At one time we had three curling clubs in Moncton, and now we’re down to one,” Tatlock said.
“We want to make sure that curling stays alive in the city of Moncton. We want to make sure that we’re going to be here for a really long time. So we’re trying to find new ways to do that.”
The new Southeast Pickleball club will use one of two ice sheds inside the current Curl Moncton building at the corner of Edmonton and Lockhart avenues.
