While an increase in personnel at 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown will bring with it a “unique opportunity” for locals, it will also bring “challenges,” according to the base commander.
“We’re certainly engaged with the community always to make sure that they’re ready to receive any capability that we’re bringing on board and that they have a suitable amount of time to predict the infrastructure requirements to provide the support that they can,” said Col. Paul Williams.
Last month, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced more than $1 billion in new spending at Base Gagetown in an effort to help rebuild Canada’s military.
