The Ukrainian Association of Moncton displayed brightly coloured and intricately detailed Easter eggs at a local boutique on Saturday, hoping to share a common Easter tradition with the wider community.
Anastasiya Kostina, board member of the Ukrainian Association of Moncton, shared the techniques of the egg-decorating tradition, known as pysanka, with customers at The Painted Pineapple.
All money made from Easter egg sales goes toward purchasing medical equipment for people in Ukraine.
Kostina, who moved to Moncton from Ukraine in 2022, said sharing the tradition with the community is important because it allows people from different backgrounds to connect.
“For me, it is a piece of art and traditions that should be kept in our life because in the modern world we buy everything … and we forget about our roots.”
She said the eggs represent new life,
