Todd John Lewis is facing two new charges as of Tuesday morning.

New Brunswick RCMP say Lewis, 36, escaped from the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre in Shediac on Feb. 12 and was on the run for nearly six weeks before being caught by police in Moncton on March 23.

He appeared virtually in a Moncton provincial courtroom as Judge Claude Haché read the two new charges to the court.

They include failing to attend a court date on Feb. 27, and willfully obstructing a police officer during his arrest on March 23. That officer was identified as Const. Stephane Blinn with the Codiac RCMP.
