Following promises for action and plans to respond to a large amount of overdoses recently in St. Stephen, Mayor Steven Backman says he is hopeful.
“And so we’re hoping to get a plan together soon with some resources and people attached to it,” Backman said, adding that several ministers have spoken to him this week.
Backman said he wants to see a plan involving both the housing and mental health sides of the equation and that the urgency remains even after the current overdoses end.
“We want to keep it alive until it’s actually solved,” he said, noting officials were responding to another active overdose situation Thursday.
He said several cabinet ministers, as well as New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health and the local emergency measures representative have reached out.
