High diesel prices are causing uncertainty and instability for New Brunswick farming and the trucking industry.
Tim Livingstone, owner of Strawberry Hill Farm near Woodstock, said five of his eight tractors are fuelled by diesel.
“This year, our diesel cost is up 72 per cent over last year,” Livingstone said.
According to the daily pump price survey from Kalibrate, on Thursday, of the nine surveyed New Brunswick cities — the highest cost of diesel in the province, at $2.77 per litre, was in Woodstock. That declined to $2.75 per litre on Friday.
On Sept. 17, Woodstock diesel hit $2.86 per litre.
The price of regular gasoline has also affected Livingstone because the farm makes a lot of deliveries.
