Riverview’s Summer Gallant will be bellowing competing cries against seasoned town criers this September in Chester, England.
The 25-year-old became Riverview’s first official town crier when the community held formal auditions earlier this year.
And when Gallant heads overseas to compete at the World Town Crier Tournament, she will be the youngest contestant and one of only two women competing.
She is preparing to compete in the three-day competition against 24 other town criers from around the world, including Chris Whyman of Kingston, Ont., who has been serving in the role for 42 years.
“As a younger girl, it is kind of hard to get really deep in the chest and to really bellow,” Gallant said.
