The New Brunswick government has bought four new amphibious aircraft to better fight wildfires.
The Air Tractor AT-802 Fire Boss aircraft were unveiled at an event on Tuesday.
John Herron, the natural resources minister, said the new planes are necessary to protect New Brunswick homes and businesses.
“Eighty-six per cent of the province is forested,” Herron said.
“We need to make sure that we have this type of capacity to protect families, communities and also the sector.”
The new aircraft are a part of New Brunswick’s partnership with Forest Protection Ltd., which is owned partly by the government and partly by “forest industry partners,” including including J.D.
