The provincial government has given Nova Scotia Power permission to expropriate about 460 hectares of land to accommodate a multimillion-dollar transmission line project.

The province signed off on the expropriations earlier this month and the utility said it is still working through the legal steps to carry them out. A Nova Scotia Power spokesperson said via email that all known landowners were notified before the process began.

“We will continue to work closely with landowners and ensure they are treated with care and respect throughout the process,” they said.

Nova Scotia Power said it needs the properties for the planned Nova Scotia-New Brunswick intertie — either because the intertie will cross over the land,
