Repairs to pipes supplying drinking water to the thousands of people in the Moncton area has led to black sediment in the water.
No boil water advisories or orders have been issued.
“The water is safe to consume,” Julie Stokes, the city’s director of water distribution and wastewater collection, said in an interview Wednesday.
The city issued an advisory last week warning that repair work would result in periods of low pressure or discoloured water in Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview.
The notice said people should avoid doing laundry when the water is discoloured to avoid staining.
Another notice issued Tuesday quotes Dr. Brittany Reid, a regional medical officer of health.
“There are no health risks associated with this discoloration,” Reid said in the statement.
