Judge in Coast Tire case finds there wasn’t proof beyond a reasonable doubt. (Shane Magee/CBC)
A workplace safety charge has been dismissed against Coast Tire & Auto Service Ltd. in the case of a Moncton employee crushed to death on the job.
The company was the subject of a two-day trial in March, where Judge Jeff Lantz heard how employee Timothy Steeves was crushed as he rolled a 454-kilogram tire at the company’s Baig Boulevard location.
Steeves, 41, died on Oct. 18, 2024.
The tire had arrived by transport truck at the Coast Tire garage on Baig Boulevard. Steeves was one of two people rolling the tire — meant for earth-moving equipment — out of the trailer when it hit the corner of a ramp and tipped over.
