For Neqotkuk musician Jeremy Dutcher, being in Fredericton to receive an honorary degree felt like “coming home.”
The two-time Polaris Music Prize recipient and Juno award-winner is now also the youngest to be granted an honorary degree from St. Thomas University.
But Dutcher believes the honour belongs equally to his community.
“There’s a tension between lifting up good work but also this fundamental humility and equality that is kind of baked into our songs and our ways of seeing the world,” Dutcher said in an interview.
