Social workers tasked with checking on New Brunswick’s most vulnerable children are fielding a growing number of calls — but the union representing them says resources are not keeping pace.

CUPE 1418 president Shawna Morton, who represents social workers employed by the province, told CBC News the system meant to serve children at risk “falls short daily.”

“We know that we are failing our most vulnerable people in New Brunswick,” Morton said.

Morton and other union leaders had gathered in Fredericton on Wednesday to draw attention to gaps in government systems that children and seniors rely on for care.
