Standing monstrously silent in a farmer’s field, the structure seems otherworldly.
Its daunting size and aging appearance gives the impression of something ancient and alien pushing its way out of the dirt.
It stands a dozen metres tall and 140 metres wide in Lakeville, a rural community in Carleton County, about six kilometres from the Maine-New Brunswick border.
For 45 years, it has stood here. Locals are used to it, but for everyone else driving by it can require a double-take.
“Everybody around here knows what it is,” said owner Kevin Taylor. “But strange people don’t.”
