The Codiac Regional Policing Authority wants the federal government to explain officer shortages within the Codiac Regional RCMP.
The civilian board that oversees the force voted Thursday to ask the federal public safety minister to explain vacancies and how that will be fixed.
About 12 per cent of Codiac’s positions were vacant earlier this month. The force polices Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview. Provincewide, the figure was around 8.3 per cent, the board heard.
Both figures are beyond a 2.6 per cent national target for front-line RCMP and a “critical level” of seven per cent.
