Hundreds of Fredericton swimmers packed into Picaroons Brewing Company on Wednesday evening to continue a longtime push for the city to build a new pool.
Swim clubs in the city have come to rely on the existing Sir Max Aitken Pool at the University of New Brunswick. It was meant to be a temporary solution, but has lasted for years, with costly repairs looming.
“Dungeon-y,” “disgusting,” and “not up to date” were how swimmers Ally Steeves, 15, Anna Thornton, 14, and Charlotte Naugler, 17, described the UNB pool.
