A 16-unit supportive housing complex for women fleeing gender-based violence is set to open in Moncton at the end of the month.
The project is a partnership between housing non-profit Rising Tide Community Initiatives and Crossroads for Women, which provides shelter, resources and crisis intervention to people fleeing gender-based violence.
Renée Charron, executive director of Crossroads for Women, said housing projects like this can provide a way forward for those who want to leave abusive relationships.
“[The] housing crisis and the high cost of living are some of the factors that make survivors either stay in dangerous situations longer or stay at the transition house longer,” she said.
