The westbound lanes on Route 1 between Hampton and Quispamsis reopened Friday afternoon, two days after a tanker rolled over, spilling 36,000 litres of fuel.
The eastbound lanes remain closed as the cleanup continues.
In its most recent update, the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization asked travellers to “exercise caution” in the area where work is still underway.
While the highway has partially reopened to drivers, there is a one-lane reduction on the westbound side between kilometre markers 142 and 158.
There is still no estimate on when the eastbound section of the highway will reopen, so the detours remain in place.
