The City of Saint John needs to make the Canada Games Aquatic Centre “competition ready” before 2029 — a hefty project, city staff say, but one that will offer generational benefits.

Saint John and Moncton have been tapped as dual hosts for the next Canada Summer Games. Both cities were named in April.

But the facilities for the games have requirements that the city needs to meet in order to qualify.

The changes that the city plans to make to the existing aquatic centre include:

  • A 20-metre warm-up pool.
  • Increased spectator seating from 400 to 750.
  • Renovated change rooms.
  • Accessible infrastructure.
  • Other improvements to the existing pool and deck.
