Parents in the Moncton area were asked to find other ways to get their children home from school Monday afternoon after New Brunswick’s 22 electric school buses were pulled off the roads.
The Vehicle Management Agency recalled the buses Friday after a similar Lion Electric Company (LION) bus caught fire in Montreal earlier in the week, with the manufacturer saying the fire was caused by a defect in the heating system.
“There are not enough replacement buses to cover each impacted route,” the superintendent of the Anglophone East School District, Randolph MacLean, said in a statement sent Monday afternoon.
“Please arrange for your child to have an alternate way home at the end of the day.”
The district operates 11 LION buses and had to cancel routes 63 and 64 on Monday due to the recall.
