The cruise season in Saint John had an early start Wednesday as a ship initially Bermuda-bound had to divert because of weather conditions.
Natalie Allaby, the director of cruise excellence at Port Saint John, said the Virgin Voyages’ Valiant Lady left New York on Monday morning and had a five-day itinerary, which included travelling to Bermuda.
“There’s some unfavourable weather scheduled for Bermuda yesterday and today, as well as some high seas, so with safety in mind, the team at Virgin Voyages made the decision to divert the ship north,” Allaby said.
“So we were happy over the weekend to get the call and kind of scramble a little bit to prop up the terminal to be ready for her welcome this morning.”
