Quispamsis Para cyclist Alexandre Hayward added another medal to his collection last weekend, winning bronze in the elimination race at the Para-Cycling Track World Championships in the Netherlands.
It was a race he had never ridden before. The event was added to the international calendar only last year, and the format is brutal: every two laps, the last rider across the line is eliminated until nobody is left.
“It makes for a lot of people fighting for position and, obviously, a few crashes, and some pretty exciting finishes every two laps,” Hayward said.
