The New Brunswick government is asking colleges and universities to “look themselves in the mirror” and make internal cuts to save money.
Jean-Claude D’Amours, the minister of post-secondary education, revealed the request on Friday after the province froze operating grants to post-secondary schools for 2026-27.
“I’m asking the colleges and universities to look at their programs,” D’Amours said. “Everyone needs to look at themselves in the mirror, and this is exactly what I asked the colleges and universities to do.”
Through this self-reflection, D’Amours said, he hopes universities and colleges can cut programs with low enrolment.
This includes looking at what the New Brunswick workforce needs.
