Saturday July 25th was not the warmest Sand Sculpture Day at New River Beach but still hundreds of artists and admirers enjoyed themselves as they have done since this traditional celebration was first held thirty years ago.
The overall winner was, appropriately, Poseidon. But there were many other fine sculptures in various categories including Rock Lobster and a fiendish croc.
Also on hand was The Council of Canadians passing out chilled lemonade (delicious) and encouragement to young people to vote in the upcoming federal election. Check them out at http://www.canadians.org/election or #GoVote2015
In addition to two very long canoes offering free rides out in the bay some came by boat on their own: likely for the view.
On sunny days the crowds may have been bigger but no more enthusiastic.
Here’s a couple of videos; the first is a time laps from 2010. the second a laid back take from 2013. Enjoy and join the fun in 2016!
