It’s now been a full year since Portage Atlantic, a non-profit that helps youth with addictions, opened a new drop-in centre in Moncton.
The organization has operated a residential addiction treatment centre at Cassidy Lake, near Sussex, since 1996.
Carol Tracey, the director of development, said the Cassidy Lake program serves youth aged 14 to 21. It lasts three to six months and includes several phases.
“It’s called a therapeutic community approach. And what that really boils down to is it’s peers helping peers. So they help push each other up,” Tracey said in an interview with Information Morning Moncton.
The new centre in Moncton is more aimed at youth who might be “treatment resistant,” she said.
