Notice to the Public: As part of our forest management activities, J.D. Irving Ltd. in Sussex, plants 4 million softwood seedlings each year. In order to ensure a sustainable softwood supply it is often necessary to control competing vegetation within softwood plantations. In addition to manual cleaning with thinning saws our foresters will use a herbicide treatment on some planted stands to control competing vegetation.
All our treatment areas are approved through the NB Department of Environment’s permitting process, and all applicable buffers on water, private boundaries, etc. are followed.
There is a public web viewer of all proposed management areas which can be found here:
http://www.snb.ca/geonb1/e/apps/apps-e.asp (Select “Forest Vegetation Management Program”).
Our program will commence sometime the week of August 20th, weather depending.
If anyone from your office or the public has further questions, please contact the Sussex Woodlands Office at (506) 432-2925.
