Details about a $96.5 million new school planned for eastern Moncton were announced Monday.

The New Brunswick government said the K-8 school will be built in the Fairview Knoll area, between McLaughlin Drive and Elmwood Drive.

“We need the space,” Education Minister Claire Johnson said. “As the kids pointed out, they want more gym space, they want a more modern cafeteria, all of the good stuff so that they can be learning.”

The school will replace the Forest Glen School, which is an elementary school, and nearby Sunny Brae Middle School.

“At this point in time, it’s a better investment to close those two schools and to build a new one than to keep renovating these spaces,” Johnson said during the announcement made at Forest Glen.
