The Under One Sky Friendship Centre on Fredericton’s north side started as one modest building, but its executive director, Patsy McKinney, longed for something bigger.
That dream has come to life in a 21,000-square-foot community longhouse that is set for its grand opening Sept. 29.
“When you walk through the door, you know you’re standing in an Indigenous space,” McKinney said. “That gets me really excited because that’s really what we wanted.”
The project proposal was approved in 2022. McKinney said it is New Brunswick’s first net-zero-carbon community building.
