A pricey gamble taken by the New Brunswick government — offering large, but time-limited financial incentives to developers to unleash a surge in new housing starts — appears to be paying off.
It was a deal Greg Collins couldn’t refuse.
The Saint John entrepreneur is constructing a $10 million, 36-unit apartment building on Leinster Street overlooking Courtney Bay. He said a tax rebate offered by the province for projects like his is a big reason he is doing it now.
“It’s an incentive to move forward sooner rather than later,” Collins said in an interview.

Developer Greg Collins said he and other builders have been hustling to get apartment projects started to qualify for substantial tax rebates being offered temporarily by the province.
