The owner of Nackawic’s pulp mill facility announced it will be “temporarily” closing operations at the end of October.

According to a statement from AV Group, approximately 350 employees will be out of work.

“The decision follows a careful assessment of the continuing challenges presented by prevailing market conditions and broader macroeconomic factors.,” said the statement.

“AV Group will continue to monitor the market situation and business conditions and assess,”

This comes after the mill stopped purchasing wood in August in what it called an “inventory adjustment” at the time.

“When we heard the news today, I don’t think we were necessarily in shock,” said Jennifer Murray, who is the regional director of Unifor in Atlantic Canada.
