Fifty years ago, James and Inge Pataki decided to open an art gallery in their own home in Fredericton.
Now the oldest private art gallery in New Brunswick — with three generations of family involved — Gallery 78 is celebrating the milestone with an anniversary exhibition.
And, according to Inge Pataki, the story begins even earlier than 1976.
“The whole idea began in about ’72,” she said. “We looked for a house, a building, to start the gallery in, and it started then at 78 Brunswick, which is our residence, and I still live there.”
