New Brunswick’s Department of Justice and Public Safety won’t provide more details about how an inmate escaped the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre in Shediac on Thursday evening.
“As this is a police investigation, the Department of Justice and Public Safety will not be commenting further at this time,” spokesperson Jadesola Emmanuel wrote in response to an interview request for Public Safety Minister Robert Gauvin.
A RCMP spokesperson also turned down an interview request. Cpl. Hans Oulette said the RCMP are actively searching for Todd John Lewis and referred CBC News to a news release from Saturday.
RCMP issued an Alert Ready message at 12:20 p.m.
