N.B. Power says it currently has 10 data centre projects that have applied to connect to its electrical system.
The utility recently confirmed the number in an email to CBC News after facing questions from the legislature’s public accounts committee on Oct. 9.
Spokesperson Elizabeth Fraser-McAllister said these applications in N.B. Power’s “connection queue” would require about 900 megawatts of power.
But, Fraser-McAllister said, “this does not mean the data centres that applied to connect to our electrical system will be realized.”
The comments come after the public learned of two potential data centre projects proposed for the province in recent weeks.
