Officials of an eastern New Brunswick community are questioning the role a freight train might have played in a wildfire that burned down a vacant home and left residents on edge earlier this week.

Firefighters in the municipality of Nouvelle-Arcadie battled a wildfire Tuesday that burned roughly 10 hectares before it was contained and later put out.

What caused the fire hadn’t been declared as of Thursday.

“There’s no proof yet, but it’s very obvious that the, the fire happened as soon as the train went by like it happened last summer,” Mayor Jimmy Bourque said.
