Saint John murder victim Allan Lee allegedly threatened to kill the two men charged with being accessories after the fact to murder in his death, the Court of King’s Bench heard Wednesday.
One of the accused, Stephen Martin, 67, made the allegation in a videotaped statement to Saint John police on Dec. 16, 2024, four months after Lee’s body was discovered in a wooded area on the western outskirts of the city, near Lorneville.
“There’s all kinds of people that would kill him because he made death threats to everybody,” Martin said in the video, which was played for the jury.
He described Lee as being “psychotic,” someone with “an explosive personality” who “runs hot and cold;” “one of those guys that was just crazy.”
“I think he was gonna kill me,” said Martin, alleging Lee had left him several threatening voicemail messages. “He was gonna kill Chuck [Charles] Pleasance,” Martin claimed.
Martin and Pleasance, 59, are accused of assisting Jinelle Thompson by cleaning the Jeep in which she shot and killed Lee on July 31, 2024.
Earlier in the trial, Thompson, who is serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder, testified she shot Lee in the back of the head and twice more in the chest because they “had disagreements.”
