The International Day of Peace is celebrated annually on Sept. 21. But 2026 is the first year that Moncton has a specially designated garden to go along with it.
“There’s lots of elements that are very peaceful,” said Darrell Nameth, co-chair of the city’s new Peace Garden.
“It’s a very relaxing place. It’s very quiet here, we don’t get much traffic noise.”
The garden is within Mapleton Park, just minutes away from many of the city’s stores and restaurants. But for Nameth and co-chair Sherry Trenholm, it’s a world apart.
“I think for many people, it is a nice place to come, to be able to sit and take a moment to have a peaceful environment,” said Trenholm,
