Moncton Artist Simon Daniel launches a new music video for his song Microscope, a textural and poetic exploration of the relationship between the individual and his environment. The clip is available on the artist’s YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/simondaniel. An ant is the main protagonist of the music video. It crosses inhospitable landscapes and meets a human. A delicate and strange dance develops between the human and the ant.
The clip is the result of a collaboration between Botsford Media Productions and Collectif HAT, a group of media artists known for their experimental multimedia installations. The song Microscope is taken from the album Nighcrawler released in fall 2019 by the artist’s label Le Grenier musique. As Simon Daniel explains, “the song is about feeling like an outcast, feeling misunderstood, much like the ant trying to fit in with the human world.”
The clip is directed by Gilles Doiron, who was also director of photography and cameraman. The video team also includes Eric Arsenault (camera, grip), the Collectif HAT (Hyacinthe Raimbault, Angie Richard, Tracey Richard) on projections and editing, and dancer Gretchen De Asis Mejorada. The production of the video was made possible thanks to the financial support of MusicactionCanada. Simon Daniel’s music is also supported by Music New Brunswick.
