The military is continuing to fight wildfires within Canadian Forces Base Gagetown.
A release on Thursday said there is currently no risk to nearby communities or Department of National Defence facilities or personnel.
On Friday, another release said it was expected that by Saturday, firefighting crews on the base would stop the fire’s advancement. Crews, including airplanes, have been working on the fire, it said.
Thursday’s release said the fire was approximately 100 hectares, but Friday’s release did not say how much the fire had grown.
Heavy equipment is also being used to create fire breaks on the military base in rural New Brunswick between Fredericton and Saint John.
The province’s wildfire dashboard website does not have any update on the fire size since Monday.
The release did not say when the fire started, but the first post on social media from CFB Gagetown was on Monday.
It also didn’t say where on the military base — Canada’s second largest — the fire is located. CBC News has been unable to reach a spokesperson for the base.
