When Reese Simon entered an art contest at school last spring, she never imagined her drawing would end up on grocery shelves across Canada.
Simon, from Natoaganeg First Nation (Eel Ground), won the Nova Scotia-based business’s art contest to design the wrapper for its seasonal Strawberry Sunshine granola bar.
The contest for Made with Local invited Mi’kmaw students across New Brunswick to create artwork inspired by strawberries, with the winning design to appear on thousands of bars sold nationwide.
“I wasn’t sure I’d be picked,” said Simon, who will begin Grade 8 at Natoaganeg School this fall.
