A man who stabbed a Wolastoqey elder to death in Fredericton while he was underage two years ago will spend another 14 months in custody as part of a sentencing decision handed down by a judge Thursday.
Court of King’s Bench Justice Thomas Christie sentenced the man to seven years, with four to be spent in custody and the remainder to be served under supervision in the community, for the June 2024 murder of Mark ‘Barnzie’ Brooks, 71, of Sitansisk First Nation.
CBC News is prohibited from disclosing the man’s identity as he was 17 years old — and subject to the Youth Criminal Justice Act — at the time of the crime.
