A southeast New Brunswick man has avoided jail time and may not have a criminal record for punching an N.B. Power contractor who was installing smart meters last year.
Ronald Arsenault, 54, of Cap-Pelé was sentenced Monday to 12 months probation and a conditional discharge if he complies with various conditions, including anger management counselling.
Moncton provincial court Judge Luc Labonté found Arsenault guilty after a trial in July of threatening and assaulting Akeem Duncan last year.
“This was an unprovoked assault,” Crown prosecutor Sara Scaletta told the judge Monday during sentencing.
