A man is dead after a shooting involving RCMP members dispatched to a home in Maltempec, a northeast New Brunswick community near Caraquet.
On Tuesday at about 5:40 p.m., RCMP from Tracadie, Neguac, Caraquet and Lamèque responded to a report of a man with a firearm who was in mental distress at a residence on Lavigne Road in Maltempec.
According to RCMP, the man was not co-operative and fired shots at the officers, refusing to drop his weapon.
“As the situation evolved, members discharged their firearms towards the man,” RCMP said in a news release Thursday.
First aid was administered to the wounded man, RCMP said, but he died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
