A man has admitted to killing another man in a small eastern New Brunswick community in 2024.
Alphonse Daigle pleaded guilty Wednesday in Moncton’s Court of King’s Bench to killing André Després on April 13, 2024, in Pointe-Sapin. The community is about 130 kilometres north of Moncton.
The plea came ahead of Daigle’s trial, which was scheduled to begin in May.
New Brunswick RCMP previously said Richibucto RCMP officers responded to a report of shots fired at a home on Route 117 around 2:05 p.m. on April 13, 2024.
Officers found Després, 52, dead.
Police say a then-70-year-old suspect was found and detained with assistance from a Parks Canada officer. Pointe-Sapin is adjacent to Kouchibouguac National Park.
Daigle was charged the day after the shooting.
