A 35-year-old Moncton man accused of stabbing an RCMP officer in the head is seeking bail.
Edva Mascary faces seven charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly stabbing Const. Marc-Antoine Latouche on Aug. 15 in Moncton.
Mascary appeared by phone in Moncton provincial court on Friday where a bail hearing date was set for Aug. 29.
The RCMP said in a news release earlier this week that officers were called Aug. 14 just before midnight to a report of a disturbance and assault between two people at a home on Fairisle Drive in Moncton.
The force said when officers arrived, one of the individuals resisted arrest and stabbed one of the officers in the head several times.
An officer used a Taser twice to subdue and arrest the man, police said.
