Extreme heat is becoming more common and a conservation group says trout in the Kennebecasis watershed are feeling the stress just as much as people on land.
“Salmonids — trout and salmon both — really like cold, fresh water systems. As our temperatures start to increase, that puts the trout under more stress,” said Ben Whalen, project manager at the Kennebecasis Watershed Restoration Committee.
The Kennebecasis River is home to what its website describes as a “productive” trout fishery. The heat, Whalen says, causes the trout in the river to be less aggressive and makes them less active.
