The New Brunswick government has decided to hold off cutting operating grants for post-secondary institutions to allow time for more discussion.

The province tabled its 2026-2027 budget Tuesday, which had been highly anticipated after threats of department cuts — including major cutbacks to post-secondary education.

Instead, the province announced in the budget it’s freezing the grant amount, which is vital to funding post-secondary institutions, at the 2025-26 budget amount.
