Earl Toner used to tell tourists who stopped near his home in Grand Falls that if they wanted good biking trails, they should head to Quebec.

Now, he watches people leave their homes with their bikes or mobility scooters, heading to the nearby trail he helped create. 

“It’s pretty neat to watch that,” Toner said. “And I’m thinking, boy, they’re out enjoying themselves, just like me.”

Toner, a cyclist, was part of a volunteer crew who made a five-kilometre trail happen in the northern New Brunswick community in 2022.

He saw how it opened up a new world for people who might otherwise stay home,
